Killed On Day He Retired
IPSWICH, April 11.- An Ipswich mill foreman, William Edward Ratdlffe, 65, who retired on Thursday afternoon, was shortly afterward fatally injured in a traffic accident. Leaving his place of employment for the last time, he rode his auto-cycle towards his home In Davidson Street.
Two New Australians, Fred Powlow and Mike Meskew, who had been living with him, were also going home along the same road, one of them wheeling a bicycle.
As Ratcliffe neared an intersection, he collided with the two pedestrians and was thrown heavily to the road. He was admitted to the Ipswich General Hospital with a fracture of the skull, facial injuries, and shock.
