Mr. G. B. Vasey
We regret to announce that the death occurred last night of Mr. George Brinsden Vasey, aged 73 years, who for more than 27 years had been editor of "'The Argus' Law Reports."

He died at his home in Brougham place, Kew. Mr. Vasey took a leading part in activities associated with the legal and educational life of Melbourne. He was interested also in Freemasonry, being at the time of his death Master of the Wesley College Lodge. He was the son of the late Mr. Thomas Vasey, who for many years was secretary of the Metropolitan Gas Company, and was educated at Wesley College and the University of Melbourne. While he was studying for the law he acted as a master at Prince Alfred College, one of his colleagues being Mr. W. H. Irvine (now Sir William Irvine, Lieutenant-Governor of Victoria).

After taking his B.A. degree, Mr. Vasey graduated LLB. in 1887, and he was admitted to the Bar of the Victorian Supreme Court. He joined " 'The Argus' Law Reports" staff in 1895, and succeeded Mr. A. H. Davis as editor in 1907.

He was a foundation member of the Historical Society of Victoria, and contributed articles on early Melbourne both to "The Argus" and the society's journal. He also wrote on legal matters for "The Argus" and "The Australasian." He was the author of several legal text-books, including works on stamps law and probate and administration. He was a member of the council of Queen's College, University of Melbourne, the council of Wesley College, and the Wesley College Old Boys' Association. He became registrar of friendly societies for Victoria 30 years ago on the death of Mr. J. B. Gregory.

Mr. Vasey's widow is a daughter of the late Mr. John Mccutcheon, Melbourne manager of the Commercial Bank, There are three sons-Mr. Arnold Vasey, who holds an important position with a Newcastle woolbroking firm; Major G. A. Vasey, brigade-major, 8th Infantry Brigade, Sydney, who will leave shortly for India on exchange; and Mr. G. H. Vasey, lecturer in agricultural engineering at the University of Melbourne. A fourth son, Mr. J. B. Vasey, was mortally wounded at Gallipoli. Major Vasey and Mr. Arnold Vasey also served in the war, the latter in the Royal Navy. There is one daughter, Miss Marjorie Vasey.

who died at his home. Brougham Place, Kew, last night, will be buried tomorrow morning in the Boroondara Cemetery, Kew. Mr Vasey was widely known in legal circles, having been admitted to the Victorian Bar after his graduation in law in 1887. At the time bf his .death he was Master of Wesley Masonic Lodge. For many years he took a keen interest in the work of the Historical Society of Victoria of which he was a member. For about 40 years he had been associated with law reporting in Melbourne, for the past 27 years in an editorial capacity. His other activities included membership of the council of Queen's College, the council of Wesley College, and the Wesley College Old Boys' Association. For 30 years he had been registrar of the friendly societies in Victoria. He was also the author of a number of legal text books. His father was Mr Thomas
Vasey, former secretary of the Metropolitan Gas Co. He is survived by a widow, a daughter. and three sons-Mr Arnold Vasey. of Newcastle; Major G. A. Vasey, ot Sydney; and Mr G. H. Vasey, lecturer in agricultural engineer ing at Melbourne University.
