Marjory and Frederick had one son, Peter John Gibbes, who won the DFC during WW2 and was a commercial pilot for many years. Peter was a pilot before the war, working for ANA. He married in 1942 but divorced shortly afterwards.

When the Japanese occupied a Malayan aerodrome at which Gibbes was stationed. Gibbes ran the gauntlet of fire from the enemy tanks and motor cycle troops armed with machine-guns to reach his plane. - He started his plane while lying on the floor to avoid the machine-gun bullets. '

He learned to fly with the Royal Victorian Aero Club and later joined the staff of ANA. being promoted to captain's rank. He was released in December, 1939. to join the RAAF, in which he has had a distinguished career, gaining the DFC for brilliant exploits I during the Japanese invasion of Malaya.
