bullet  General Notes:

3 May 1854 - Born at sea on board the Barque Trafalgar near South Australia

I think this is how it goes, but this is a tangled story. There seems to be some name interchanging.

John married Harriett Lavinia Thompson b.1850 NSW- d.1903 Chillagoe Qld.

Their eldest child died in Victoria, and then they seem to have lived in NSW for some time. John Trafalgar Franklin was bankrupted in July 1893 address given as "The Pocket, Brunswick, NSW". They seem to have moved to Queensland. Births of children do not seem to have findable registrations under the surname Franklin or Thompson. At some stage John's name seems to have been changed to William John Franklin and Walter John Franklin. His children sometimes give his name as John Trafalgar and yet it appears as William John Franklin and sometimes Walter John in other documents. I have been unable to find a marriage for Harriett Lavinia Thompson and a Franklin to date.

7. Walter John Franklin -1931 No birth found. Death registered in Qld parents given as John Trafalgar Franklin and Harriet Thompson.

Death of An Old Pioneer.
Death of An Old Pioneer.
Died at Mareeba on Tuesday afternoon an old identity of North Queensland, and a man of sterling worth, in the person of Mr. William John Franklin, at the age of 64 years. Deceased was for several years connected with the mining and cattle industry in the Chillagoe, Mt Garnet and Bamford districts, where he was highly respected. During recent years he had been a resident of Cairns, where he conducted the business of the Central Hotel in conjunction with his son in-law, Mr. Mark Olsen [Oleson]. The late Mr. Franklin was proceeding to the Tommy Burns mine, where he still held considerable interests, but he was taken suddenly ill on Thursday evening at Mareeba, and became an inmate of the local hospital, where he gradually sank and passed away on Tuesday in the presence of various members of his family, consisting of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Olsen [Oleson], Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Franklin, and Mr. John Franklin. The remains will be conveyed to Cairns by train this (Wednesday) morning, and the funeral will leave the Central Hotel at 4 o'clock this afternoon. The late Mr. Franklin was renowned for many good actions, and North Queensland has lost a worthy citizen
