A BENDIGO DIVORCE CASE. ATKINSON V. ATKINSON.
A BENDIGO DIVORCE CASE. ATKINSON V. ATKINSON.
Melbourne, 20th November.
Before Mr. Justice Hodges in the Divorce Court to-day, Kate Roberts Atkinson, of Bendigo, petitioned for a divorce from her husband, John Turner Atkinson, photographer, on the grounds of desertion and repeated acts of adultery.
The parties were married on the 2nd of May 1881, by a Methodist minister, at Ballarat. There are two children now living.

Petitioner's counsel (Mr. Woolf), in opening her case, said that petitioner, as a husband, was a failure from start to finish. Petitioner had received £2 per week from her husband up to 1885, but had not received a threepence since. It would be proved that respondent was at present living at Canterbury with another woman.

Petitioner said that her mother started respondent as a photographer at Beechworth, giving him in all £150 to assist the business. Continuing, witness said that while residing with her husband in Bendigo street, Prahran, her husband removed all the furniture, leaving her and the two children in an empty house. She then went back to her mother, and had been maintaining herself as a machinist ever since.

A milkman named John Kinnealy deposed that he knew respondent by the name of Turner, and that he had been living at Canterbury for some time with a woman who was called "Mrs. Turner."
After further evidence had been given; his Honor granted a decree nisi, and gave costs against the respondent.
The latter's counsel (Mr. Hansford) held a silent brief, and made no attempt to cross-examine witnesses.
