DEATH OF OLD RESIDENTS.; One of the oldest residents of Heidelberg passed away on Thursday in the person of Mrs McEwin, wife of Mr Peter McEwin. The deceased was 90 years of age, and had been in Heidelberg 69 years, having arrived from Scotland in the Maitland with her former husband (Mr Heddle). Her parents opposed her marriage, but she defied them, and left on her wedding day for Australia. During her residence in Heidelberg she married Mr McEwin, and has only been out of town for one night during the 69 years. Mrs McEwin was the mother of 12 children-nine by her first husband and three by her second.
Another old resident who has also gone over to the great majority is Mrs Hewitt, relict of the late Mark Hewitt, Greensborough. The deceased came from Pentonville, North of Ireland, and has been a resident of Greensborough for half a century, her age being 84 years, and she leaves a family of ten. Mrs Hewitt was buried on Thursday and Mrs McEwin on Friday, the funeral arrangements in both cases being carried out by Messrs Irvin and Son, Heidelberg.
