UK De Ruvigny's Roll of Honour, 1914-1919 Private no 270933 1st Battalion The Hertfordshire Regiment (T.F) son of Frederick Gray of 61 Knos Road Wellingborough by his wife, Katherine, daughter of Henry Harris of Hardingstone Northamptonsire; b Wellingborough 14 May 1888 educated at all Saints School there; was a grocer's assistant. He joined the Hertfordshire Yeomanry in May 1915 and was transferred to the Hertfordshire Regiment in December 1916. He served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders from the 24th of December and was killed in action on 24 September 1917. He was buried where he fell. His commanding officer wrote "He was instantaneously killed by a shell whilst doing his duty and will be missed very much indeed by all who knew him."
