General Notes:
Laurence lived most of his married life in the Shepparton area and worked as a motor mechanic. He later established his own mechanical business and employed his son. As time went by he decided he needed a change and bought a dairy farm. After some time on the farm, Laurence and Betty semi-retired and moved to Kialla Central. His love of woodturning kept him busy. He made beautiful furniture which he took great please in giving to his children and grandchildren. Laurence did not keep good health and the couple decided to move to Kialla Gardens Retirement Village where Laurence enjoyed the last years of his life. He died in 2004 and is buried at the Pine Lodge Lawn Cemetery, Victoria.
Shepparton Advertiser (Vic. : 1914 - 1953) Fri 5 Apr 1946 Page 4 Katandra Bride Katandra Bride Wed at St. Augustine's White magnolia slipper satin composed the charming bridal gown chosen by Miss Moria (Betty) Victoria Woodcock, for her marriage to Laurence Ivan Jones, which was solemnised in St. Augustine's Church of England by the Rev. Mr. Rodda, of Violet Town, last Saturday.
The bride, who was given away by her father, is the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Woodcock, of Katandra West, whilst the 'groom is the third son of Mr. and Mrs, T. Jones, of Footscray.
The bridal gown of rich satin had a long bodice which, was gathered in the front and had three quarter gathered sleeves. The embroidered folds of the beautiful tulle veil (lent by the best mans wife, Mrs. Davis) was caught with a cluster of orange blossom. Her bouquet of white gladioli harmonised perfectly with the gown.
Miss Phyllis Woodcock, who attended here sister, wore a blue crepe gown. The waistline of which featured a fitted band into which the bodice of the gown was draped, and the skirt softly gathered. Her hat of toning tulle straw was trimmed with pink, and her bouquet was composed of pink cacti dahlias. Mr. Reg Davis, of Chelsea, was best man.
A reception to 45 guests followed at the Arcadian Cafe, where Mrs. Woodcock received wearing a navy frock with navy accessories, and her shoulder spray was of pink carnations. The groom's mother assisted, and she too wore a frock of navy, with navy accessories, and had a shoulder spray of red roses. The wedding cake had been baked by the bride's mother, and was most artistically decorated by Mrs. W. Down, of Katandra West.
The bride's travelling costume of grey, with brown accessories. The honeymoon will be spent at Swan Hill and the happy couple will reside at North Fitzroy.
