General Notes:
Newspaper article, no dates or headings Octogenarians Two Falls Accident 17 Years Ago Accelerates Death An opinion that an injury from an accident 17 years before helped to bring about a man's death was expressed at an inquest held by Dr. F. H. Blackburne (Assistant Deputy Coroner) at Kingston Court House, on Wednesday, one George Castleman Broom, aged 82 of 34 Evelyn road, Wimbledon, who died at Kingston and District Hospital on Sunday.
Albert Broom, 11 [probably street number as Albert was actually 43 at the time of his father's death], Wilberforce House, York road, Battersea, said that his father injured his hip when he fell from a van about 17 years ago, and he was later granted a pension. For the past three years he had trouble with his leg, and he had another fall in February 1931, whilst getting out of bed.
Dr. Van Buuren (Kingston and District Hospital) said that Castleman had been unable to walk since he was admitted to hospital after his last accident. Death was due to syncope caused partly by senile changes. Dr. Van Buuren added that the two injuries accelerated the man's death. He might have lived until he was 90, but lying in bed affected his health.
A verdict of accidental death was recorded.
George married Mary Ann LAWRENCE [5517] [MRIN: 1713], daughter of John LAWRENCE [9688] and Mary [9692], on 2 May 1869 in Newington, Surrey, England 94.,5161 (Mary Ann LAWRENCE [5517] was born in 1845 in Bermondsey, London, England 94, christened on 21 May 1845 in Bermondsey, London, England 5165 and died in 1933 in Kingston Upon Thames, Surrey, England 94,5166.)
