General Notes: John Rawson came from Durham England on the ship "British Empire" which sailed from London 26 October, 1852 and arrived at Geelong on 8 March 1853. He was said to be a Gardener and on disembarking the family went to Mr. W. Downie at New Town for 3 months for a wage of 156 pounds with rations. On board were John married Mary HUNTER [550] [MRIN: 177], daughter of Walter HUNTER [552] and Jane KENDLE [551]. (Mary HUNTER [550] was born on 31 Jul 1816 in Gateshead, Durham, England 1124 and died in 1877 in , Victoria, Australia 1125.) |
