Percival Joseph Marmo, of 288 Essex St., Footscray, was fined £5, in default one month's imprisonment, for stealing a quantity of timber, valued at £5, from a house construction job in Essex St..
Defendant said he had not worked for two years on account of an accident, and was receiving £3/7/ weekly in compensation. He could not afford to buy timber to erect a gateway to prevent his two children from straying on the street, which was a busy one and' had taken the material a little at a time.
