Wagga Wagga Express (NSW : 1879 - 1917) Tue 5 Feb 1895 Page 2 SAD DEATH BY BURNING. SAD DEATH BY BURNING. A little girl, 4 1/2 years of age, named Ethel May Lloyd, and a daughter of Mr. John Lloyd, of Lalla Rookh near Yerong Creek, met her death on Friday last as the result of a burning accident, thus making a double bereavement in the same family within a week. It will be remembered that a few days ago we had to chronicle the death of Richard Lloyd, 12 years of age, and a son of Mr. John Lloyd, resulting from his being thrown from his horse, and now the hand of death has carried away this second victim from the same family circle. It appears that on Thursday morning the child was playing in the garden with some other young children, and, to amuse themselves, they lighted a camp fire in a hole dug for that purpose. The unfortunate child must have got too close to the fire and thus ignited her clothes for she suddenly screamed out, and her father, who was inside the house, on running out, found the child completely enveloped in flames. Without hesitating a moment Mr. Lloyd tore the burning garments from the child's body, but not before she had sustained terrible burns. As well as possible Mr. Lloyd dressed the burns, and making all possible haste to Yerong Creek, just managed to catch the train to Wagga. On the arrival of the train here the child was taken to Dr. Long's residence, but her injuries proved so severe that she expired directly the house was reached.
