bullet  General Notes:

Private Harry Miller regimental number 20210 was in the 1st /5th Battalion of the 5th Staffordshire Regiment. He died of wounds sustained during WW1. He was buried at that time, but his body was exhumed from German Grave 141 and reburied at the Valenciennes (St Roch) Communal cemetery in France. The cemetery is situated about 1.5 kms from the centre of Valenciennes on the north side of the road to Bruay-Susr-L'Escaut.

Only an estimated 30% - 40% of the WW1 British military service records have survived due to being destroyed by fire during Second World War bombings, and sadly Harry's record appears to be in the 60%- 70% that have been lost.

Mr and Mrs Miller have now received official news confirming their sons death, and further information from the Red Cross is to the effect that he was reported taken prisoner at Gommecourt on March 15th. on a list dated May 29th. News was received from Berlin that he had died in Bay-Kriegs Laz Abtl 62, death being caused by wound in the right hip by machine gun.
