Robert Morrison EVANS [8191]
Another name for Robert was Bob EVANS. General Notes: Robert worked on the farm and undertook a correspondence course to gain the necessary qualifications to join the airforce during WW2. Robert did his RAAF training in Australia, Canada and England and was eventually posted to a Lancaster Squadron. He qualified as a wireless operator and Air Gunner. He flew 15 missions and on the 15th mission to Merseberg, the plane was shot down. Robert presumably parachuted out and landed on some farmland in Belgium where the family who owned the farm cared for him. He was handed over to the Americans who assisted Robert's return from England. After his leave, Robert rejoined his squadron and flew another 7 missions after being shot down. 418518 Flying Officer Robert M Evans. |
