L./CPL. W. J. FAHEY :o: Missing, Believed Dead Relatives residing at Hay, have received word that L./Cpl. W. J. Fahey, previously posted missing, is now reported missing, believed dead. 'Bill' was the only son of the late William J. Fahey and Mrs. Fahey, of 33 Sofala Avenue, Lane Cove, who were old and highly respected residents of Hay. He was born and educated here finishing at the War Memorial High School. He was a very keen cricketer, footballer and tennis player, and popular with the young folk of the town. Leaving Hay some years ago, he finally settled at Griffith, and at the time of enlistment in February, 1942, was manager of Mirool Guest House, Griffith, where his mother resided with him for a while. He was 36 years of age when he enlisted, and single. He was a grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. D. McKinnon, nephew of Mr. L. McKinnon and Mrs. John Connor (West Hay), and brother of Mrs. Mary Thompson (Lane Cove) , whose husband also served in the forces with him. Much sympathy has been expressed with the relatives on the receipt of the distressing news.
Either the newspaper story is incorrect of the date on his grave is incorrect as one has 1945, the other 1942
