Archibald McDonald BLACKWOOD [8987]
(1893-1975) |
Archibald McDonald BLACKWOOD [8987]
General Notes: Archibald and his brothers James Allan and Andrew Joseph Blackwood all fought in WW1. Archibald was taken on strength in 1916 at Tel-el-Kebire, Egypt and landed in Marseilles in June 1916. He was then taken on strength of the 1st Anzac Light Horse. It seems that Archibald and Andrew's military records are very similar as they seem to have stuck together throughout the war and it would appear that they had both been AWOL together on the same dates. They both returned to Australia together with their older brother returning home about a week earlier. Archibald married Elsie in 1924 and applied for a solider settler block and was granted land at Nar Nar Goon where he seems to have remained for the rest of his life. Elsie and Archibald had four sons and two daughters according to Elsie's death notice in 1949. Archibald married Elsie Olive JEREMIAH [8986] [MRIN: 2917], daughter of Thomas Alfred JEREMIAH [8229] and Eliza Ellen DUNNE [8230], in 1924 in , Victoria, Australia 7125.,7128 (Elsie Olive JEREMIAH [8986] was born in 1902 in Coburg, Vic, Australia 7126 and died in 1949 in Pakenham, Vic, Australia 7127.) |
