Richard and his first wife Mary sail to Australia arriving before May 1861 when their daughter May Mary Snow Harrington is born at Merton. Another son Joseph Snow Harrington was born in 1863.

Richards descendants ran an orchard on what was "Mine Hill" next to the DIamond Creek gold mine until Tom Harrington's death when the property was sold in the 1980's
