John McGUINNESS, his wife Jane, and children John, Mary Jane, Alice and Edward travelled to Australia on the ship "ARAMINTA" which left Liverpool on 20 June 1852 and arrived at Geelong on 4 October, 1852. Also on board were 191 Highlanders who were from Brae Stein on the main road leading to the Village of Stein. Many of the crofters emigrated after they were evicted and many of the inhabitants were related.

John married Jane TOLMY [936] [MRIN: 279], daughter of James TOLMY [962] and Jane TOLMY 1 [961], about 1840 in , , Ireland. (Jane TOLMY [936] was born in 1820 in , Armagh, Ireland, died on 3 Feb 1864 in Maldon, Vic, Australia ¹⁷¹⁷ and was buried on 5 Feb 1864 in Sandon, Vic, Australia.)
