She was charged with kidnapping the daughter of William Swindon. I have found no further trace of Maude and have not been able to find out what happened to her or where she ended up in life.

A warrant has been issued against a woman named Maude North, on a charge of abducting a little girl, five years old, named Sarah Ann Swindon, from the house of her, father, Cypress Cottage, Jarman-street, Prahran. The woman is said to be, thirty, years of age, of pleasant manner, a good musician, and has been a governess.

The offender is aged 32 years, 5 feet 2 inches high, stout build, fresh complexion, full face, dark eyes, dark hair, pleasant manner, a good musician and has been a governess . The stolen child is 5 years, dark complexion, brown hair, very dark eyes and long eyelashes. 15 May 1871
