Maggie Beggs suffered a terrible trauma in December 1898 perpetrated by a Police Officer who was duly arrested for the offence. I will not go into details here but have attached links to newspaper articles that give details of the incident. It would appear that not only did Margaret develop a sexually transmitted disease from the rape on 12 December 1898, she also became pregnant and gave birth to a son John on 13 September 1899.
