Miss Pearl Black'well and' Mr. Jim| Madden, of Garfield, were the guests, of honour at a Kitchen Tea arrange' by Mrs. Connelly and her daughter Tess, on Friday 9th.inst, to celebrate the approaching marriage of the young- couple. About fifty guests were present, and a very pleasant and happy evening was enjoyed by all. , Mr. Don Munro excelled in his capacity as M.C., and he kept things: moving with a swing throughout . Competitive games, and dancing to the music of the piano and accordion played by Mrs. N. Bassed and Mr Jack Madden provided happy entertainment in conjunction vwith lan Costain's -hill-billy songs, and Len Lord's recitations. The young couple were the recipients of numerous and valuable gifts from their many friends, and after a bountiful supper the evening concluded with the singing of Auld Lang Syne and the National Anthem. Opportunity was also taken by her friends to present Mrs. Bassed with, a beautiful bunch of flowers, as it. was her birthday on the day following.

Blackwell, Garfield and the late Mr. Blackwell, to James, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs.F. B. Madden, Garfield, was celebrated, Rev. N. A. Mcean performing the ceremony.
The bride, who was given away by her uncle, Mr. Blackwell, looked charming in a gown of white French wool embroidered across the bodice with white flowers and finishing with long full train. Her filmy tulle veil was caught to the head with frangipani and she carried a lovely bouquet of frangipani, carnations and orange blossom.
Mrs. Ken. Towt, as matron of honor, and Miss Tess Connelly, bridesmaid were dressed alike in blue marquisette with lace yokes and peplums. Their head dress being blue veiling with sprays of .flowers, which' blended with the gladioli, water-lilies, roses and maiden-hair fern woven in their bouquets.
Attending the 'groom were Mr. Ern Booley, of Bunnocky- as best man, and Mr. Jack Madden groomsman. During the signing of the register, Mrs. Alf . Parish delightfully rendered a solo. , The reception was held at the home of the bride's mother, where Mrs. Blackwell, wearing a blue frock and matching hat received the guests. The 'groom's mother was frocked in a floral dress and blue hat. For travelling the bride wore a pale blue , coat over a white beaded frock, the accessories were also of white.

Pearl's husband, Sydney James, Known as Jim, worked for the Forestry Commission for many years living at Cabbage Tree and Labertouche. They moved to Drouin sometime in the late 60's or early 1970's, and later to Archer Road, Garfield and finally to 33 Garfield Road, Garfield where they remained until their death's. Both Pearl and Jim died at this house. Prior to retiring, Jim worked for the Shire of Pakenham. The couple lived at Garfield for many years. Pearl was an accomplished painter in oils.
Herald Sun Melbourne 18 Jul 2005 MADDEN (Blackwell) - Pearl Gladys Doreen, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones on July 16 2005 aged 76 years. Dearly loved wife of Jim, loved mother of Michele, Christopher, Leonnie and mother-in-law of Steven and Stephen. Cherished Granny to Phillip, Daniel, Jodie; Lucinda, Savannah and Philippa. Dearly loved and sadly missed. Now a peace.
