bullet  General Notes:

Chris was a happy healthy little boy. At the age of about 4 years he was visiting his Grandmother with his family and had a fall and broke his leg. Unfortunately it took some time for the family to realise that he had also suffered a blow to his head during the fall and had developed a clot on his brain. Doctors at the time advised that he was too young to have an operation and would have to wait until he was 7-8 years old for the clot to be removed. The family followed the doctors advice and the clot was removed when Chris was about 7 years of age. Sadly, he suffered complications and brain damage. He remained at home for many years but as his parents aged they decided it would be best for him to be placed into institutional care. He spent many years at the Janefield Centre, in Melbourne. When this centre was closed he was then placed in residential care in Cranbourne.

Pearl and Jim had their home at Garfield modified to make Chris's visits easier. Chris came home regularly on weekends, and holidays, and was always happy to see the extended family when they visited. He always knew who his cousins were, and never batted an eyelid when they came in with a new baby, but would always know who that baby was as the years passed, even though he saw them only occasionally.

As his parents health deteriorated it became more and more difficult for him to visit his home and in later years only day visits to his parents home were possible. Whilst he was unable to speak following his operation, he could certainly get his message across. He loved to work in the shed making things, and had a very large collection of keys. His favourite thing to do when he visited home was to watch he Three Stooges and he was extremely fond of sponge cake.

Approximately 10 years before his death he suffered a fractured hip from a fall, and was confined to a wheelchair. His health deteriorated rapidly and he died in 2008, just 2 years after his mother and one year after his father's death.
