  General Notes:

According to the inquest papers, Susannah had been born prematurely at 6 months and was always delicate. She slept in the bed with her parents and was always kept well wrapped up because she was delicate. Her mother always put her to sleep between herself and the wall. The baby woke and was fed at around midnight, her mother moving her into the middle of the bed to feed. Her mother must have fallen asleep without moving the baby back to the other side of the bed and mother woke at around 5.30am and realised there was something wrong. She woke her husband to light the candle and found the baby was dead. Father went to get the Dr, who had already attended the baby twice due to her delicate nature. The Dr found a fold of the shawl the baby was wrapped in was partly over the baby's face and he believes that the baby, being delicate suffocated from that. She was almost 5 months old at the time of her death. ¹¹⁸
