The Corowa Free Press (NSW : 1875 - 1954) Tue 23 Jan 1945 Page 2 DRUNK ON SUNDAY DRUNK ON SUNDAY At the Corowa Police. Court yesterday morning, Stanley Herbert Trueman, 64, labourer, appeared on a charge of having been drunk in Albury road on Sunday. He pleaded not guilty. Constable D.N. Naish stated that on Sunday, afternoon as a result of a complaint, he visited the Empire Hotel Wahgunyah as the licensee had complained that defendant had been demanding drink and would not go away. At about 4.30 p.m. he saw defendant sitting'on a seat outside the Newmarket Hotel. He denied that he had been going to the hotels demanding drink and food: also that he had been at Wahgunyah. He was drunk and smelt strongly or wine.
Mr. B.J. Rodgers. J.P;. convicted defendant, who only returned from Goulburn gaol that week after serving six months for vagrancy, and whose list of convictions is nearing the 100 mark. He was fined £1 or 48 hours.
