Barbara Anne FLANAGAN [5568]
General Notes: In 2012 I stumbled across a family tree on Ancestry.com which mentioned my great grandfather, but it did not contain any names I recognised. I followed it through with the tree owner, and later found some names of living people who I believed to be connected. I took a punt and rang a number in Western Australia and awkwardly introduced myself as a "possible relative". The person I rang was Barbara's brother. He told me he would let Barbara know as she was the family researcher. Within days I had received a long letter from Barbara telling me that it was only a few years before that the family had discovered the truth about the family and that the person who they thought was their grandfather who was actually Alfred Thomas Dawes. Barbara and I corresponded by e-mail, and spoke on the phone over a period of time and in September 2012, Barbara and her husband were travelling to Victoria to visit family. They arranged to travel down our way and meet us. Blood appears to be thicker than water and we became instant friends. What a wonderful thing to meet a family member from a line of the family that one didn't even know existed. Barbara and I kept in touch over the 5 years we knew each other, sharing information and keeping up with family news. What a sad day it was when I received the telephone call from Barbara's husband to let me know that she had passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. Barbara was a retired teacher. Noted events in her life were: 1. Occupation: teacher, 1968, Broken Hill, NSW, Australia. Barbara married Jeffrey RYAN [5570] [MRIN: 1732], son of George Stevenson RYAN [6038] and Eileen BLAKELEY [6039]. |
