Inside the fly-leaf is written in Mrs Dore's handwriting, " To Admiral Lord Charles and Lady Beresford, in memory of Ann Glanville." The West Australian (Perth, WA : 1879 - 1954) Thu 13 Jul 1899 Page 5 NEWS AND NOTES. The Queen and Mrs. Dore.-Immediately following upon the Queen's 80th birthday we published a cablegram announcing that Her Majesty the Queen had graciously accepted a collection of wild flowers, accompanied by a loyal address sent by Mrs. Margaretta Doré, of Cottesloe. The London Daily Telegraph of May 27, which lately came to hand, contains the following reference to the matter : "The Queen received on her 80th birthday a touching tribute of loyalty and affection from far-off Western Australia. This was in the form of a lovely collection of the wild flowers of that colony, accompanied by a loyal and loving address on silk, composed by the sender, Mrs. Margaretta Doré, of Cottesloe, Perth, Western Australia. Mrs. Doré sent the tribute to Mr. F. Gough, of the Colonial Office, asking him to kindly have it placed before Her Majesty on her behalf. Mr. Gough accordingly sent it to Sir Arthur Bigge, who gave it to the Queen at Windsor Castle on Wednesday. Her Majesty commanded Sir Arthur Bigge to despatch a letter to Mrs. Doré telling her how much the Queen admired the flowers from that far-off colony and thanking the sender for the loyalty and affection for Her Majesty expressed in the address. It is to colonists a gratifying fact that while the Queen made a general reply to thousands of birthday congratulations by a statement in the Court Circular, this humble but beautiful birthday present from the Southern Hemisphere was replied to by a personal letter."
