Sophia GOMEZ [11004]
General Notes: Sophia Gomez was born in Spain, the only daughter of Signor James Gomez, sculptor, who was brother of the Late General Gomez of Spain. Sophia's father was said to have been assassinated at the time of the Spanish Revolution and Sophia's uncle Nemecio Gomez took her away to Gibraltar for safety. At the age of 17, Sophia Married an Army bandsman named James Kellum (Kellam) on 13th June 1836. James died in 1840, by which time, Sophia had 2 children. She may have married another army Officer called William Duck and possibly had several more children. William Duck died in St Kitts in 1842 and it seems that Sophia and the Regiment then returned to England, where in 1844, Sophia Duck married William Glanville, also and officer in the same Army Regiment. Sophia and William Glanville had 3 children, the first born in Ireland in 1847, the second born in England in 1849 and the 3rd born on board the prison Ship, the Pyrenees in 1851. Noted events in her life were: 1. Residence, Nov 1844, Weedon Bec, Northamptonshire, England. Sophia married James KELLAM [11005] [MRIN: 3641] on 13 Jun 1836 in , , Gibraltar. (James KELLAM [11005] was born in 1815 in , , Gibraltar 8499 and died in 1840 in , , Gibraltar.) Sophia next married William DUCK [11162] [MRIN: 3720] about 1841. (William DUCK [11162] died about 1842 in Saint Kitts, , West Indies.) Sophia next married William GLANVILLE [11003] [MRIN: 3640], son of John GLANVILLE [11002] and Ann WARREN [11039], on 26 Nov 1844 in Daventry, Northamptonshire, England.8498 (William GLANVILLE [11003] was born in 1822 in Saint Andrews, Devon, England.) |
