80th Birthday.
80th Birthday.
Heartiest congratulations are extended to Mrs, Robins, senr., of Erica, who celebrated her 80 th birthday on Wednesday, July 15. Mrs. Robins is well-known and highly esteemed throughout this district, as for many years she resided at Willowgrove and Moe.

In a family of eight (six girls and two boys), Mrs Robins was the third child of the late Mr. and Mrs Aaron Cole, and was born at Alma, near Maryborough, in 1862. The other surviving, members of the family are Mrs P. Cole and Mrs E. Miller, of Kiata, and Mr T. Cole, of Bannockburn.

Until she was 15 years of age, Mrs Robins lived at Chinaman's Flat, and then went with her parents, brothers and sisters to Kiata. On February 26, 1884, when she was aged 21, she married Mr Henry Robins, third child of George, and Susanna Robins, at Kiata East. Their first home was at Gerung Gerung, after which they lived in Kiata until 1896, when they went to Yerong Creek, in New South Wales. They spent three years there, then moved to Hopetoun and Kiata for a few months, and came down to Seville, where they spent twelve months.

From Seville, Mr and Mrs Robins went to a farm at Willowgrove, where they resided for 21 years before coming to Moe-to the farm now owned by Mr J. S. Rees, from whence they shifted to a home (afterwards purchased by a son, Bert) in Moore Street, Moe.

During the twelve years spent in Moe, Mrs Robins lost her eldest son, Les., who, for about 21 years, had been employed on a station at Nullagine, in Western Australia. He died on January 10, 1929, and little more than a year later (on February 26, 1930-the 46th , anniversary of their wedding-day) Mr Robins passed away.

It was on September 8, 1934, that Mrs Robins left Moe for Erica, to reside with her, youngest daughter, Miss Ivy Robins, who is in charge of the office at The Purvis Stores. For some time, she also carried out the duties of postmistress, but of more recent years - since Erica grew and her bookkeeping duties increased - she has done any relieving work, and is night telephonist during alternate weeks.

Of her family of eleven, Mrs Robins still has ten living, and also has 23 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.'
Her family comprises -
Stan. (Trafalgar),
Syd. (Willowgrove),
Lilian (Mrs G. A. Marshman, Erica),
Sylvia (Mrs F. Wilson, Trafalgar) 4
Roy (Yarragon),
Hedley (A.I.F.,overseas),
Bert (Erica),
Harold (Salisbury,; near 1 Nhill),
Wally and Ivy (Erica).

About six weeks ago, the eldest daughter (Mrs Marshman), who had been living at Ouyen, and whose husband and two sons are in the Forces, one son having recently returned from overseas, came to reside with her mother and sister at Erica.

To mark the occasion of Mrs Robins's 80th birthday, a family party was arranged for Sunday, 12th July. Among the 17 present were Mr and Mrs Syd. Robins and their son (Harry), Mr and Mrs Roy Robins, Mrs F. Wilson, Mr and Mrs Stan Robins and three children (Nell, Pat and Ray), Mr and Mrs Wally Robins and their infant son (Bryson), Mr Bert Robins, Mrs Marshman and Miss Ivy Robins. Mrs Robins received several letters and telegrams of congratulation, also a cable from her soldier son, Gunner Hedley. Robins, who was in the Middle East when last she" heard from him. During afternoon-tea, Mrs Robins cut the lovely pink iced birthday-cake, made and decorated by Mrs Wally Robins and given by little Bryson to his grandmother. The candles were lit by the youngest member of the family, Miss Ivy Robins.

Except for rheumatics in a knee, Mrs Robins enjoys remarkably good health, and has led a very active life. Her chief interest has always been the Methodist Church, and she still knits socks for her sons. During the last war, she did a lot of work as a member of the Red Cross. Her late husband was keenly interested in the Victorian Farmers' Union when it was first formed, and Mrs. Robins took a leading part in the women's section. Her many friends wish her continued good health and many more happy - birthdays. https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/264507425
