Tragic Occurrence. Thomas Anthony Kenny, aged 36, was found dead in a back room at the residence of Mrs. Edith Parsell at Langley about 6 a.m. on Tuesday under circumstances in which the coroner (Mr. P. Bartold, P.M.) returned a verdict that he had succumbed to a self-inflicted pea rifle bullet wound. Deceased had lived at Mrs. Parsell's house at odd times for several years and had arranged with her daughter, Catherine Parsell, to go into Kyneton to marry her on the
Tuesday. She had a child 14 weeks old of which she alleged Kenny was the father. About 2 a.m. on Tuesday the child was crying and deceased went to a room occupied by Mrs. and Miss Parsell and asked about it. He afterwards returned to his room and between 4 and 5 a.m. several explosions resembling pea rifle shots were heard by Mrs. and Miss Parsell, who attributed the reports to someone shooting in the paddock. Later in the morning Kenny was found dead in his room. Both Mrs. and Miss Parsell stated at the inquest that no quarrel had occurred and they were unable to suggest any explanation as to why the deceased should have committed suicide. Constable Bates, who inquired into the case, told the coroner he could not believe otherwise than that deceased had fired a bullet at himself.
