Edward Bannan aged 30 came to Australia on a ship named "Thelis", 460 tons, which sailed from Cork on 9 November, 1841 and arrived at Port Phillip on 17 February, 1842. His trade was labourer, religion Roman Catholic. Also aboard this ship was Patrick Bannon, 31 carrier of Co. Cork and his wife, Mary Anne, 30 and their son John 6. It is uncertain if they were related to Edward Bannan.

Edward and Mary Redmond were married at St Mary's Church, Geelong. Witnesses to Edward and Mary's marriage were Maurice Treheny (?) and Catherine Redmond.

Edward's occupation was always recorded as farmer. In the 1875 Post Office Directory, Edward's occupation was said to be carrier.

Edward married Mary REDMOND [93] [MRIN: 48], daughter of John REDMOND [224] and Sarah FARRELL [223], on 4 Feb 1847 in Geelong, Vic, Australia.²⁵⁰ (Mary REDMOND [93] was born about 1830 in , , Ireland, died on 27 May 1913 in Kerang , Vic, Australia ²⁵¹ and was buried on 29 May 1913 in Kerang , Vic, Australia.)
