  General Notes:

James was born in Moolort, Victoria and his address is given as Newstead, Victoria, but he enlisted in Brisbane, Queensland on 13 September 1916. He was 32 years and 6 months old at the time of his enlistment and his occupation was painter. He was 5" 9 ½ " and he weighed 140 lbs. His complexion is described as dark, his eyes brown and hair brown. His Service number was 6647. He embarked from Australia on 17 January 1917 on the Omran.
He served in the 2^nd Tunneling Company. He was wounded several times by gas and also suffered gunshot wounds. He returned to Australia on the Acanius in 1919.
