Notes
General:
Dennis and Mary lost 3 sons in World War 1, 2 in France on the Somme in 1916 and one in Syria in 1918. They lost two grandsons in New Guinea in 1943 during World War 2.
In the 1912 electoral roll, Dennis Bannan was living at Fitzroy Street Kerang with his wife Mary and his mother, also Mary (Redmond). He died at Garfield, Victoria in 1947. He was living at the Iona Hotel, Garfield at the time of his death.
The Late David Eyre Simcocks (1937 - 24.9.2006 late of Garfield) remembers, as a child, going to the Garfield Hotel to get some alcohol for his mother to make her Christmas puddings and seeing deceased Dennis Bannan laid out in one of the rooms at the hotel. He turned around and ran out of the Hotel and went back home, without the alcohol. He recounted this story to me during a discussion in about 2000.

TROOPER JOHN JOSEPH BANNAN.
Sincere regret was expressed in Berwick and Beaconsfield when the sad news was received that Trooper John J. Bannan, late of Berwick, of the 8th Light Horse Regiment, had died of malaria fever in hospital at Damascus, in Palestine, on 16th October. Trooper Bannan had been in action for three years and five months, and leaves a wife and two young children to mourn their loss. The deceased soldier, who was 29 years of age, was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Denis Bannan, of Kerang, old and highly respected residents of that district, with whom the deepest sympathy is felt, as two other sons, Frank and Willie, were killed in action in France in August, 1916. May their souls rest in peace.

Royal Australian Corps of Military Police
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Royal Australian Corps of Military Police is a corps within the Australian Army. Previously known as the Australian Army Provost Corps, it was formed on 3 April 1916 as the ANZAC Provost Corps. It is responsible for battlefield traffic control, security duties, prisoner of war handling, the investigation of service offences, maintaining discipline and the running of military prisons. Its name was changed in 1918 and it was disbanded in 1920. The corps was reformed during World War II and was granted the 'Royal' prefix in 1948, adopting its current name on 4 September 1974.[1] Her Royal Highness Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall became the first Colonel in Chief of the Royal Australian Corps of Military Police in November 2012. 579,580,581
