WON STATE LOTTERY
MRS C. PEACOCK AND ALD. C. E.
PERRIN
Yesterday's New South Wales State lottery came to Deniliquin.
It was won by the "Another Try'"syndicate, the ticket for which had been sent for in the name of Mrs Cornelius Peacock, of 82 George-street, Deniliquin. with whom Ald C. E. Perrin, well-known undertaker, of Deniliquin, was associated in the 5/9 venture, which has yielded them £2,500 each (£5000 in all.)
Interviewed at lunch time yesterday, Mrs Jean Peacock, to give her own Christian name was overjoyed That, of course, puts it mildly. She said she was so thrilled that she had had no time yet to work out what she proposed to do with the money. Up till about four months ago, she said, she had been for six years working with her husband (now bread carter for Cables' Deniliquin) on a married couple job in the back blocks.
It was quite a thrill to know that she had shared first prize in the State lottery after slaving away for six years. Mr and Mrs Peacock have a family of four children, two girls, age two and six, and two boys, aged nine and three.
Just before coming to Deniliquin about four months ago, Mrs. Peacock won £100 in the State lottery. She stated that possibly the winning of that £100 had excited her even more than news of the big win, but it was apparent that the full significance had not yet dawned upon her. To use her own words, 'It takes a bit of getting used to.' Moreover she was still awaiting, when interviewed, official confirmation.
Aid Perrin was next interviewed. He was maintaining poise. He said he was in the act of completing his nomination paper for the Municipal Council election when Mrs Peacock met him with the news in the street. Jokingly, he added that he had rushed his nomination paper to the Town Clerk, just in case of accidents in the limited time available.
Ald Perrin stated that he had not been a partner with Mrs Peacock in her £100 win, but since the Peacocks had come to Deniliquin to reside, Mrs Peacock and he had been sharing a ticket in the State Lottery for about five occasions. Originally they had used their initials: 'C.P. - J.P.' for the title of a syndicate, but on this successful occasion they had altered the name of the syndicate to Another Try.'
