SUDDEN DEATH OF POPULAR DIXVALE IDENTITY
SUDDEN DEATH OF POPULAR DIXVALE IDENTITY
The sudden death on December 9 of Gladys May, wife of Mr. Herbert John Limmer, of Dixvale, came as a shock to a wide circle of friends. Deceased was born in Fremantle.
She and her husband - a miner then from Victoria who was suffering lead poisoning - came to the South-West as a means of improving Mr. Limmers health. They arrived at Dixvale just at the time when Group 5 was being settled in October 1921.
To a large degree Mr. Limmer's health improved and he and his wife proved worthy citizens of their adopted district. Apart from an interest in R.S.L. Women's Auxiliary spheres and a few other social organisations, Mrs. Limmer remained a home lover and devoted to her children, two of whom, Bernard and Rita, (Mrs. Kenneth Kelly) live in this district. Mick, a twin of Rita's, was a World War 11 casualty and his death was a sad blow to the family.
It was mainly through the experiments carried out from 1921 onwards by Mr. Limmer that tobacco growing on a commercial basis is carried on within the Warren district today. He overcame what appeared insurmountable obstacles to prove that tobacco could be satisfactorily grown in the Manjimup district. Besides this he was interested in local government and was at one time a chairman of the Manjimup Road Board.

John and Amelia were married at the Wesleyan Parsonage, Latrobe Terrace, Geelong by Richard Fitcher. Witnesses to the marriage were George Faulkner, and Anna Dalton.

DEATH OF MRS. JOHN RAWSON. DEATH OF MRS. JOHN RAWSON. THE FUNERAL.
Though for some years a resident of Wagga, Mrs. John Rawson was always regarded as belonging to the Lockhart district, seeing that for 40 years she was the sharer and the bearer in the hardships and successes which marked the life of her husband, Mr. John Rawson, J.P., on his extensive grazing property, "Ingelby," a few miles from Milbrulong. When the Rawson family commenced life there, the Milbrulong district was one dense, pine scrub, and younger generations can scarcely imagine what difficulties those who pioneered the district in those days had to contend with. Happily, Mr. Rawson, now past his 93rd birthday, still lives, but his partner for fifty years has now to be numbered amongst the great majority, having parsed the allotted span of three score years and ten by six years. In a distressing visitation of that calamitous sickness of the mind which had assailed her more than once, she escaped from the loving care or those who tended her and her lifeless body was found in the cold waters of the lagoon at Wagga on Saturday morning.
Thus was ended a life which had made many fine contacts in the web and woof of human existence, for she was an excellent wife, an ideal step-mother for the young family, which through her marriage with Mr. Rawson, a young widower, had become her great responsibility, a first-rate neighbour, a good friend, and a woman most hospitable to strangers. She had an affectionate connection with the Methodist Church throughout her life, was a great admirer and supporter of the Salvation Army, a strong advocate of the C.W.A., and she shared her husband's generosity with many other religious and charitable works, not- ably the hospitals. The funeral took place at Lockhart on Monday. A service was conducted in the Methodist Church at Wagga, in the forenoon by the Rev. Arthur J. Gould, the Wagga Circuit Minister, who, on his arrival at Wagga recently, had the pleasure of renewing a warm friendship with Mr. and Mrs. Rawson, established in the years when Mr. Gould was minister at Lockhart, and when the Rawson's were residents at "Ingelby."
The service was largely at tended, amongst those present being the Mayor of Wagga (Ald. E. E. Collins, M.L.C.), the president and directors of the Wagga District Hospital Board, besides other leading townsmen and representatives of public bodies. Captain Packer (Salvation Army officer) took part in the service. The minister delivered an address of a most touching char- acter, in which he emphasised that the manner of her death was an accident for which blame was attached to no one, but her whole life and character recalled to all her faith- fulness as a loving wife, a good mother, a staunch churchwoman, and the doer of good works. The remains were brought by motor hearse to the Methodist portion of the Lockhart cemetery, where several members of the Rawson family have been interred.
Not- withstanding that many town and district people were not acquainted with the occurrence, there was a large attendance at the graveside. The chief mourners included : Mr. John Rawson (widower), Mr. J. F. Rawson (step-son). Mr. J. A. Rawson (step-son), of Trundle; Messrs. A. Faulkner and Jas. Faulkner (brothers); Mrs. H. Stevens, of Trundle, and Miss Anna Faulkner, of Ballarat (sisters). The carriers were Messrs. Syd. Rawson, Wm. Rawson, J. Faulkner, C. H. Cornell, J.P., S. Ashley, and E. Howard. The pall bearers were Messrs. J. F. and J. A. Rawson, H. Rawson (of Bogan Gate), L. S. Castles, W. B. Davies, and R. Strusz. Amongst the general mourners present were: Cr. W. K. Day, Cr. J. J.
