Notes
General:
I remember my grandmother Alice Isobel very well. She was a widow then, wore either black or white Edwardian style dresses to the ankle She is supposed on leaving her rather large wedding reception in 1890 (300 guests and 10 in the wedding party!) to have heaved a sigh of relief at leaving behind the remaining McCutcheon brothers and their associated work load within the family home. I found her rather formidable as this was pre-war and I was then only about 4 or 5. It seems a very long time ago.

PASTEL hues were worn by the charming bridesmaids who attended Miss Phyllis Gretta Davey, only child of the late Mr Charles T. Davey, and Mrs Davey. "Barfold," Radnor Street, Camberwell, at her marriage, which was celebrated at the Camberwell Methodist Church on Saturday, January 28. The bridegroom was Mr Hugh Gerald McCutcheon. youngest son of the late Mr Harry G. McCutcheon, and Mrs McCutcheon, "Killara," Prospect Hill Road Camberwell.
Mr W. J. Davey gave the bride away. She chose a lovely wedding gown of ivory duchesse satin, fashioned on mediaeval lines, the effect being enhanced by a Honiton lace veil mounted over white tulle and caught by a plaited band to form a cap.
A coronet of orange blossom was finished with little clusters of blossom at each side, and she carried a loosely arranged bouquet of choice white roses, with long trailing sprays of lily-of-the-valley tree.
Three bridesmaids, Misses Mavis McCutcheon (sister of the bridegroom), Jean Allan and Louie Matthews (cousin of the bride), were in attendance. Their georgette frocks were in shades of pale green, shell pink and pale blue respectively, made of georgette, with deep flounces of silk net forming billowy skirts. Little Grecian capes surmounted the frocks, and their picture hats of tulle were trimmed with forget-me-nots. They carried bouquets of pink carnations, gladioli and holly leaves.
Mr William Hartnett acted as best man and Messrs Edgar and Donald Little as groomsmen.
After the ceremony, which was performed by the Rev. E. Nye, a reception was held at the Chalet, Wattle Park.
The bride's mother brightened her black ensemble with a shoulder spray of Duchess of York pansies, the same flowers setting off Mrs McCutcheon's black georgette and lace frock and black hat.

A WAREHOUSE FATALITY.
CORONER'S INQUIRY.
The Coroner (Mr. T. F. Davies, P.M.) and a jury yesterday resumed the inquiry into the recent death of James Oliver McCutcheon at Messrs. Falk and Co.'s warehouse.
With the Coroner's permission Mr. Hardwick watched the proceedings on behalf of Messrs. Falk and Co., the deceased's employers. Sergeant Pilkington examined the witnesses.
- Michael Hayman, employed at Messrs. P. Falk and Co.'s, gave evidence that at about 3.40 p.m. on March 30 he was on the first floor near the hatchway at the rear of the warehouse, with a quantity of goods on a wheeler. He called out to the attendant below to send up the hook of the electric hoist. As witness pulled the wheeler forward
to the opening, the corner struck a stack of caddies of tobacco standing a few feet from the edge. Three caddies were dislodged, and two bounded over the edge of the pit. The gross weight of each caddy would be about 13 lb. Witness looked over the edge, and saw one strike the deceased McCutcheon on the head and knock him down.
To Mr Hardwick: Deceased, when struck, was standing in the doorway adjacent to the hatchway on the ground floor.
Dr. J. S. Landon, acting .RM.O. at the Perth Public Hospital, produced the report of Dr. Sweet (at present absent from the city) of a postmortem examination on the body of deceased. The report stated that death was due to fractures of the skull and cerebral hemorrhage. Deceased died, at the hospital at 4.55 p.m. on the date of the
accident.
Evidence of a corroborative nature was given by employees of Messrs. Falk and Co. Robert C. Smith, in reply to the jury, said that about twelve months ago a wheeler loaded with crockery, had fallen down the pit, but on that occasion no one was injured. The spot where deceased was struck down was frequently occupied by persons other than the firm's employees.
To Mr. Hardwick: If protective doors were installed in the hatchway, they would have to be opened or removed to allow of the manipulation of the hoist.
The jury after a short retirement, returned a verdict that deceased came to his death through fracture of the skull, caused by a caddy falling on his head, as the result of an accident. A rider was added: "'That, in our opinion, the well hole or hatchway should be cased in."

Notes
General:
I have found an arrival in Port Phillip in December 1860 of John McCutcheon, aged 38, Margaret McCutcheon aged 36 and Catherine McCutcheon aged 14 on the Ship the Alice Walton. Whilst the ages given are wildly inaccurate, I presume this is the correct John Margaret and Catherine as on both John and Margaret's death certificates, the time in Victoria works out that they would have arrived in 1860.

John arrived in NSW from Batavia, in 1839 on the ship the Jean and married Ann in 1842 in NSW. Although John's parents are given as John and Margaret on his death certificate I am not certain that his parents are John McCutcheon and Margaret Bothwell.
His name is spelt in various ways over time his death is recorded as McCutchan. but some records record the spelling as McCutcheon.
