It appears that Charles was christened twice, once on the 8th April 1872 at Littleborough, Lancashire, England at the Holy Trinity Church. Then Charles was christened again at St John the Baptist Church, in Smallbridge, Lancashire, along with Albert Edward, Arthur William, Walter Herbert, and Primrose. William and Sarah were living at Dearnley and William's occupation was given as labourer.
When Charles was born William and Sarah were living at Box Meadow, Blatchinworth, Lancashire, England. This is noted as the sub district of Blatchinworth and Calderbrook on his birth certificate. I cannot find this town on the map so I presume it no longer exists. According to what I have been able to ascertain, it appears to have been nearby to Rochdale, and quite close to the Higher Chelburn Reservoir.
In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Blatchinworth like this: BLATCHINWORTH, a township and a subdistrict in the district of Rochdale, Lancashire. The township bears the name of Blatchinworth-with-Calderbrook; lies on the Manchester and Leeds railway, 5 miles NE of Rochdale; contains seven hamlets and Little borough village,-the last with a post office under Manchester and a r. station; and has romantic scenery., numerous good residences, a church, five dissenting chapels, an endowed school, eight cotton mills, twelve woolen mills, two collieries, and rich quarries. Real property, £14,551; of which £1,020 are in mines. Pop., 4,860. Houses, 980.-The subdistrict is conterminate with the township.

George Jnr emigrated to Queensland Australia in 1911 and enlisted in Wedderburn Victoria Australia on 10 November 1914 to serve in WW1. His Australian Service number was 816. He served in the 8th Light Horse in Egypt. He suffered various illnesses during his time including malaria, he embarked at Kantara for Australia on the ship Euripides in March 1919. When George enlisted he gave his next of kin as his mother Mary Barringer. George Jnr and his wife Sarah had one son George William Darlow (1906-1908)
George jnrs Australian war medals were posted to him at Wedderburn Victoria Australia. He seems to have returned to England in 21 December 1919 on the ship Imperator via the USA. George Jnr married Flora Wagstaff nee Thompson in 1921. In 1920 George and his mother Mary Barringer as witness signed a receipt for receipt of his Star medal, so he must have been in England at the time as his mother was his witness. .........And then there was Mum's brother Bob, young fellow. She used to like him. He got married, he married a nurse and they had two sons that was the last I heard of him. And he was then, when we left England, we went to see him down at …………. He wasn't home, he was at his work. We went to this factory and out comes this chap with his smart overalls on, badge across the front, cap on his head, Uncle Bob. He was the engineer there, he was a top class engineer, Uncle Bob and he had this job, he used to look after the boiler room and the big main engines, because in those days they didn't have separate motors, they were steam driven and they had one big engine in the basement, and it used to drive all the overhead shafts for all the machines in the factory and every man used to switch on his machine. They used to run all day those machines. Well he had charge of that, had to keep that going. Well I remember him cuddling us and saying cheerio and that was the last I ever saw of Uncle Bob. I suppose he's long gone..................
