A PIONEER'S DEATH.
Horsham has lost another of its old worthies in Mr Samuel Bennett, brickmaker, who passed away on Sunday morning at the age of 85. Deceased was a Staffordshire-man, having been born at Wallsall, and came to Victoria in the early fifties. On the subsidence of the gold fever, Mr Bennett, like others, settled down to business, and coming from the pottery county, naturally took to the work he knew most about, brick-making. He started in Ballarat, but in 1874 came to Horsham and remained here. He started the brickfields now occupied Messrs Sawyer, and some ,of the best buildings in the town may be cited as monuments of his work. Some seventeen years ago Mrs Bennett died and about five years ago Mr Bennett sold out to Mr Sawyer, and went to live with his oldest son, Benjamin, in Ballarat.
Owing, however, to his son s death, he returned to Horsham, living with his daughter, Mrs Leister, to the end.

OBITUARY
MRS. SARAH MEWBURN.
MRS. SARAH MEWBURN.
Died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. M. Porter, of Lynch Street, on Christmas Eve, Mrs. Sarah Mewburn (84), a member of an old pioneering family which came out to the Ballarat goldfields in the early days.
For the best part of the last 35 years she has lived at Stockinbingal. Born in Birmingham, England, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. Bennett, Mrs. Mewburn came with her parents to Australia when she was 16. The family proceeded to Ballarat, where shortly afterwards the daughter was married to the late Mr. James Mewburn.
In 1891 Mr. and Mrs. Mewburn left Ballarat and took up farming at Finley, N.S.W., later (in 1900) coming to Stockinbingal. Mr. Mewburn died in 1927 and 18 months ago Mrs. Mewburn came to live with her daughter, Mrs. Porter. She was in good health until about a fortnight before her death, when she became ill.
There were nine in the family, three being deceased. Those surviving are: Mrs. J. B. Fitzgerald (Milvale), Mrs. B. Witenden (Stockinbingal), Mrs. M. Porter (Lynch Street), Mrs. V. Corby (Narraburra) and Robert and Alfred (Stockinbingal). The 20 grand-children include Mr. Matt. Porter, of Messrs. T. A. Tester & Co., and there are 16 great grandchildren.
The funeral took place on Christmas Day from Lynch Street to the Stockinbingal cemetery, where Rev. H. E. Cosier (Methodist minister at Young), assisted by Mr. Francis, of Cootamundra, carried out the last rites. There was it large and representative attendance of Young and Stockinbingal residents. The pallbearers were grandchildren.

Ada was christened with Gustavas Adolphus William James Herbert Edward Kelly named as the father and her surname registered as Kelly.
A tree on Ancestry.com has Ada May COOK marrying a William George Landells, however, I am not sure that Ada May would be using the surname of Cook as her birth was registered as Best so this data may be inaccurate. There is also a marriage in 1896 of Ada Best to Herbert Edwards. Another person has her death as 1909 at Castlemaine, but I have been unable to find a matching death. Ada is listed as 54 years of age on her mother's death certificate, so I assume she was still alive in 1939. Yet another person has her death in 29 September 1965 in Coburg, Vic. This requires further investigation.
