Willow Grove.Willow Grove.
At the Willow Grove Hall on Friday, 29th alt., a very enjoyable social evening, to celebrate the marriage of Mr S. Robins, third son of Mr and Mrs H. Robins, of Willow Grove, to Janet, second daughter of Mrs Farquhar Lamont (who at one time resided in this locality), was held.
Mr W. H. Burrage, junr. acted as chairman in his usual efficient manner, and the duties of M.C. were in the capable hands of Mr V. Gibson.
The toast of the evening, " The, Bride and - Bridegroom, was proposed by Mr F. Halden in his usual able- manner.
Mr Thompson (on behalf of the Bride and Bridegroom, who had left earlier for Lakes Entrance), in a very humorous speech, responded. The toast was enthusiastically received by the audience.
Mr A. Arnott, who was entrusted with the next toast, " The Parents," expressed the pleasure derived by ail present in attending such a function. (Applause).
Mr J. Balfour, In supporting the toast, made a very fine speech, vividly portraying the responsibilities one enters into on marriage. Mr Balfour's remarks were listened to with rapt attention, and, apart from being well received, were the theme of many complimentary references.
In replying, for himself and on behalf of Mrs Robins, Mr Robins thanked the speakers for their very kind remarks. He said that he thought it would be " a good thing to have a pool," as he still had six more to go. (Loud laughter).
Mr Geo. Needham, responding on behalf of Mrs Lamont, said that, with the marriage of Miss Janet Lamont, all of Mrs Lamont's sons and daughters had entered the bonds of matrimony. (Applause).
At this stage, Mr Robins thanked his many friends for their attendance, and particularly those who had assisted with the programme and supper.
Messrs Standeven, Chas. Webb and Thos. Webb supplied the music in & very satisfactory manner. Items rendered during the evening were as follow :- Song, Let the Rest of the World Go By," Mr V. DIVORCE CASE.
DIVORCE CASE.
EXTRAORDINARY CIRCUMSTANCES.
"NO SUCH THING AS LOVE."
MELBOURNE, May 14.
Extraordinary circumstances were discussed in a divorce petition which was before Mr justice McArthur to day. The gist was that of Walter Thomas Bidwell, who south a dissolution of marriage from his wife, Ada Florence Bidwell. When the parties were married in 1918 the wife , was 15 years of age and the husband 17 years. A child was born in 1918 and, according to the evidence of the petitioner, his wife from that date refused to have any further relations with him.
Respondent gave evidence to-day. She very young when they married, she not understanding that she gave herself to him They had their meals together, and he took her to the pictures.
Mr. Justice McArthur; As far as the outside world was concerned you were just ordinary married people.
Witness: The neighbours thought that he was my mothers eldest son. He always treated me well.
Mr. Justice McArthur. It is just down right stubbornness on your part Witness: I don't think so. I don't believe there is any such thing in the world as love.
Mr Justice McArthur said the case was most extraordinary, but that he would to refuse the Petition, as the evidence was insufficient. He thought the husbands behaviour would stand by him in the future. Some men would have treated the girl roughly. Her conduct was conduct of which she should thoroughly ashamed.

EARLY MARRIAGE
EARLY MARRIAGE
HUSBAND SUES FOR DESERTION.
Melbourne, Wednesday.
Reserved decision was given by Mr Justice McArthur in the Practice Court to-day in the matter of a suit for divorce on the ground of desertion that was brought some time ago by a young man named Walter Thomas Bidwell against his wife Adelaide Florence Bidwell. The case attracted some attention at the time on account of the youthfulness of the parties and the views expressed by Mrs Bidwell that she was too young when she married;
that she did not want to have anything more to do with her husband; that she preferred to live with her mother, and to lead her own life.
The parties were married in 1917, at Ballarat, the bridegroom then being seventeen and the bride sixteen.
The bridegroom was then an apprentice. For some time after the union the parties lived with the bride's mother, but after the birth of the first child the bride refused to have anything more to do with her husband. When he had concluded his term of apprenticeship the respondent refused to leave her mother's house.
Mr Justice McArthur said the point he had to decide was whether refusal of matrimonial rights for more than three years constituted desertion, when the wife was actually living in the same house as her Husband. He sympathised with the petitioner, but could not hold, against all the authorities, that mere refusal of conjugal rights in the circumstances was an act of desertion-The parties had otherwise been on friendly terms, and had gone out together. The period of actual desertion would date from the time when the husband had taken up his residence in Melbourne, and the wife had refused to join him. This was yet within the three years' period which constituted desertion His Honor granted Bidwell leave to withdraw the petition
