Robert Darlow and Thomas Darlow, both of Kimbolton, labourers, were charged by Jesse King, gamekeeper to the Duke of Manchester,with having on the 26th October inst, at Kimbolton, trespassed on land in search of game. Convicted and fined costs 2/ each allowed a week to pay.
Mary Ann Darlow of Kimbolton, sister of the above named defendants, was charged by Henry Peckham, with having, on the 31st inst. assaulted him at St. Neots. Convicted and committed for 7 days.

Some family trees have Thomas Darlow born 1805 Odell, Bedfordshire and this Thomas Darlow born Thurleigh abt 1804 mixed up. This Thomas's baptism shows his parents as John and Hannah, the other Thomas born at Odell is the son of William and Ann (Carrington). I am uncertain how to unpick this confusion as there were so many Darlow's with the same name who lived close by. The Thomas who was born and seems to have lived his entire life at Thurleigh married Hannah Barnes at Thurleigh and died at Thurliegh. The Thomas born at Odell married Mary Fennell in Odell which would lead me to believe that each Thomas stayed in the same area as they were born. This confusion between the 2 Thomas's will be very hard to unravel.

.......... Uncle Walt, I think he had two children, a boy and a girl. We used to go and visit them, but I don't know what happened to them. See none of us ever wrote to them. Dad never wrote, we never wrote and they never wrote to us, so that we lost complete track of them. But I do know that Uncle Walt's eldest son, he worked in the local post office there for years, he became assistant postmaster or something, at the Kettering Post Office.........

"I can recall my Darlow grandparents from when I was about 6 years old. They lived in a terraced house in Kettering - 74 Havelock Street. I recall the house had a lavatory out in the yard and their water came from a well in the back garden. There was no front garden-the front door opened directly on to the street.
I do know that Walter was a part time Orator He apparently used to work in Fairgrounds (Hollands) where he would be in a big tent and tell stories or recite poetry to the public. He spoke in village halls and the like Those days there were neither radio or television so good story tellers were apparently much sought after.
Granny (Maggie) Darlow was a Bailey. There is quite a large family of Baileys in Kettering. They are, as I understand it, of Romany extraction. There must have been money in the family at one point because Grandfather and Granny had various businesses - one of which was a fish and chip shop."

William and Sarah were married by Banns. Witnesses to the marriage were John Darlow and Mary Ann Fox.
At the 1851 Census, William was living at Rookery, Kimbolton. When he married in 1860, his address was given as White Horse Yard. At 1881 Census he was living at Bridewell Lane, Kettering and his occupation was given as local road foreman, in 1891, he was living at 12 Eden Street Kettering and occupation was Foreman-local road Board.
In 1911 at the time of the census, he had two of his granddaughters staying with him, Doris Blackwell 15 years and Ethel Darlow 24 years.
It is thought that William's wife, Sarah Holland, and her family were Romany Travellers (gypsy ).
When William died he was living at 19 Club St Kettering, England. William, Sarah, and their granddaughter Daisy Miles (Darlow) are all buried in a grave number C / 447.
Most or all of William and Sarah's children were mostly referred to by their second names.

.........Grandad Darlow. I remember him well, often used to see him walking around the streets of Kettering on his job………I can see him now walking very straight, shoulders back, and we'd say "good morning Grandad", we were proud to address him as Grandad "good morning, m'boy" always very courteous and very nice. He was a Yorkshire man, he used to do a lot of road work and drain work in Yorkshire and he got a contract to do work for the Kettering Council and he came down there and did drains and roads and he was so satisfactory that when he finished his contract to do work for the Kettering Council offered him the job of Outdoor Overseer of all their outdoor staff. That's when we used to see him, going doing his rounds, supervising the men. He had that till the day he retired. They lived in Eden Street Kettering.............

I have verified the marriage date and there is a date of christening of a William Darlow on this date, however, this would William only 10 years old when he married. 8. Thomas Darlow 1804-1890 m. Mary Ann Fennell and had 3 children one of their children, Thomas Matthew (Matthew Thomas) Darlow emigrated to Australia and married and had children in Australia.
Some family trees have Thomas Darlow born 1805 Odell, Bedfordshire and Thomas Darlow born Thurleigh abt 1804 mixed up. One Thomas's baptism shows he was baptised at Thurleigh, his parents as John and Hannah, the other Thomas born at Odell is the son of William and Ann. I am uncertain how to unpick this confusion as there were so many Darlow's with the same name who lived fairly close to each other.
The Thomas who was born and seems to have lived his entire life at Thurleigh married Hannah Barnes at Thurleigh and died at Thurliegh. The Thomas born at Odell married Mary Fennell in Odell which would lead me to believe that each Thomas stayed in the same area as they were born. This confusion between the 2 Thomas's will be very hard to unravel.
