GARFIELD. Monday. - At about 1 o'clock this morning the general store occupied by Messrs E. Harcourt and Co., together with practically the whole of the stock was totally destroyed by fire. The fire was first noticed by George Scotland baker employed by Mr G. Bird It was then burning on the extreme eastern side of the building and had apparently started on the outside. This is the second time within eight months that Harcourt and Co have had their premises burnt The building, which was owned by Mrs. Harcourt, sen., was injured in the Atlas Company, and the stock in the Atlas and New Zealand Companies. The building which was only completed six months

Notes
General:
It is likely that James Scott and Sarah Ritchie were not her biological parents. Images of Cecelia show she was of aboriginal descent. I have been unable to find a birth registration for Cecelia under either surnames of Ritchie or Scott. Cecelia's parents have different names on her marriage and death certificates. On Cecelia's marriage certificate (scanned copy viewed on Ancestry.com) she states her parents are Robert Jackson, labourer, and Sarah Scott, but on her death certificate her parents are named as James Scott and Sarah Ritchie. Her place of birth is consistently given as Tylden, Victoria.
Cecelia Scott had a relationship with Edward Jackson although I cannot find a marriage of Cecelia and Edward Jackson. Cecelia married James Cox who was almost 30 years her senior and had been a widower since 1882.
I presume the following children belong to James Cox and Cecelia.
1. Agnes Christine Jackson Cox 1887-1955 (birth registered as Jackson)
2. Harry Murrell James Cox 1888-23.9.1915 (wounded in WW1 (shell wound back and leg) Gallipoli. He died of his wounds at sea whilst on board the "Glenart Castle" and was buried at sea. Service number 388)
3. Stella Clara Cox 1890-1975
4. Ernest Leonard Cox 1892-1925
5. Peter Gordon Cox 1893-1976
6. Laura Cecelia Cox 1895-1910

PRIVATE P. G. COX.
Mrs. C. Cox, wife of the late Mr. J. Cox, of Macorna, has received a letter from her son, Private P. G. Cox. written from the Edmonton Military Hospital, London, stating that he had received wounds in the left leg necessitating the amputation of the limb, but he was feeling better. Private Cox took part in the famous landing in Gallipoli, on which occasion he was wounded. He was again wounded in the following August. He had been in France since last March, and received the wound in August. His brother, Private H. J. Cox, was killed in the Gallipoli campaign. Both soldiers are well known in Macorna, where they lived until a short time before enlisting.

Notes
General:
I believe that Henry and Jane and their infant daughter travelled to Australia on the ship the "Shand" which arrived at Portland in January 1855. On board the ship was Henry (23) & Jane (19) Scott, Harriet (27) and James (25) Charlotte and Walter & Infant Scott (no ages).
Henry's occupation was given as mason and bricklayer.

Notes
General:
Although the marriage states the name as Ann Boyd, I believe this is the correct marriage as Henry Scott's occupation is given as mason. Henry's occupation at burial is given as mason and also on his son's death certificate.
