Notes
General:
Whilst Amelia's father is recorded on records as Williams, DNA matches on Ancestry.com in February 2024 with various Dawes descendants, indicate that her father was likely to be Alfred Thomas Dawes, though it is posible it may have been one of Alfred's brother's who was the biological father of this child. Amelia married John Morgan and there is a possible link with Alfred's partner's the Morgan sisters, however I have found no link between John Morgan and the Elizabeth, Louisa and Frances Mary Ann Morgan.
Amelia would have been born when Alfred was 24 years of age if he is the biological father. His first child with Elizabeth Morgan was not born until 1873.
There is a baptism in Adelaide in June 1868 of Amelia Emily Dawes. The parents are listed as Charles and Elizabeth Dawes but there seems to be no corresponding birth. Charles and Elizabeth had a daughter named Amelia in 1850 so it is unlikely they would have waited until that Amelia was 18 before baptising her. Is it possible that this baptism is this child who they had baptised as their own despite the child being the likely child of one of their sons???
Amelia Williams spinster, married John Morgan bachelor at the Coffee Palace at Traralgon in December 1887. They were married by Alfred William Howitt, a Justice of the Peace according to the rites of the Weslayan Church. John's occupation is listed as labourer aged 21 living in Traralgon, parents John Morgan labourer and Annie Eliza Nichols and Amelia's occupation is given as household duties she was aged 17 and living in Traralgon. Her father is given as Charles Williams carpenter and her mother is Elizaeth Discom. Witnesses to the wedding were W H Thompsom and Emma Thompson.
Amelia died in the Royal Melbourne Hospital, she gives her fathers name as Charles Williams, carpenter and her mother as Elizabeth Williams formerly Discomb. The death certificate states that she was in Adelaid South Australia for 7 years and Victoria for 50 years and that she was married at the age of 19 in Traralgon to John Morgan. 7 chilren are listed on her death certificate.

DEBT CASE.
W. Macdonald v. Amelia Morgans
-Claim for £43 Is Id, balance on a promissory note.
Mr P. P. Serjeant who appeared the complainant, said the amount sued for was due on a promissory note signed jointly by Jack Morgans and Amelia Morgans, in consideration of Mr Macdonald having guaranteed Jack Morgans at the Colonial Bank for £100. Jack Morgans had signed his estate, and Mr Macdonald had received a dividend from it of £612s and 9d , the amount sued for representing actual amount due on the promisary note, which had been duly presented
and dishonored. A defence had been entered, but it was really no defence.
Defendant was not here, and Mr Hosken, whom he met in the street informed him she was not coming. He asked that the summons be amended so as to read, " Money due on a promissory note and interest thereon," which the Bench complied with Wm. Macdonald deposed that he
guaranteed Jack Morgans at the Colonial Bank, and that the promissary note (produced), signed by Jack Morgans and Amelia Morgans was left with the manager, Mr Knight. Jack Morgans assigned his estate , and witness, who had paid the bank the £100 received a dividend of £ 61 2s 9d from the stated. The amount now ????? for £43 1s 1d, was the balance of the principal, and interest at the ??? of 6 per cent, which was still due and owing.
James Porteous Knight, Manager of the Colonial Bank of Traralgon deposed that he recognised the
promissory note (produced), and that the signatures attached to it were those of Jack and Amelia Morgans. The Bank had advanced £100 to Jack Morgans on the guarantee of Mr Macdonald
which the latter had since repaid. He knew the guarantee 'was given on the promissory note (produced). At this stage Mr Hosken ???? the court, said he had been, instructed to appear in the case and applied for an adjournment. He had just received a telephone message that Mrs . Morgans was ill and could not attend. The defence was that the promissory note had been met, and that Mrs Morgans was not liable to Mr Macdonald. If an adjourment were granted ?????
was willing to pay the costs.
Mr Sergeant objected. The application might be only an attempt for time. If Mrs Morgans was ill she should have sent a doctor's certificate. Mr Hosken said that Mr Morgans had told him that if he would be so good he would come up by the dinner time train, so it was no attempt to gain time.
After further legal argument ???? thought that if Mr Morgans attended the case could be dealt with, and the court was thereupon adjourned to 1 o'clock.
On resuming at that hour the case was again called on, Mr Morgans being in attendance.
Mr Serjeant informed the court that Mr Hosken, after consultation with Mr Morgans, had told him that he would consent to an order being made for the amount claimed with costs.
Judgment was then entered for ??? £43 1s 1d with £2 9s costs ?????? fault distress.
