MRS. O'REILLY
THE death occurred (suddenly) on Christmas Day of Mrs. Elizabeth Agatha O'Reilly, formerly postmistress at Herne's Oak, at the home of her sister, Mrs. John Bolger, Morwell.

The deceased was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bolger of Jumbuk, and spent her early life in that district. Following her marriage with the late Mr. James O'Reilly, she went to live at Tatura. After the death of her husband about 20 years ago she took up residence at Herne's Oak and established a business, with which the local post office was later associated.

When her only son. Thomas, predeceased her about 18 months ago, she then came to live at Morwell.

Her remains were interred in the Hazelwood Cemetery on December 27th, following a service at the Sacred Heart Church and at the graveside conducted by the Rev. Father J. J. McCormack.

MR. JOHN BOLGER

THE late Mr. John Bolger, who passed away recently at the age of 73 years, was a former. councillor and president of the Morwell Shire. The late Mr. Bolger was born at "The Terricks" near Echuca, and in his youth went to Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, where he was employed at a mine managed by his grandfather. He returned to Echuca and forty years ago came to Yinnar and shortly afterwards took up residence in Morwell. He was employed by the late Mr. E. Kleine and the late Mr. G. Billingsley, senr., and in 1919 took over the latter's carrier undertaking business, which he conducted up to the time of his death.

He was intensively interested in local affairs, and took an active part in all matters connected with Morwell. He was a member of the Morwell Shire Council for a period, and served .one term as president; his interest in the Morwell. Shire-Maryvale Band was keen and he assisted in placing the band on a solid foundation. He fought hard to have a swimming pool established in Morwell: he was an office-bearer of the Australian Natives Association: a member of the St. Patrick's Race Club; a member of the Morwell Waterworks Trust and Sewerage Authority; of the old Mechanics Institute. Practically every organisation in Morwell received the. benefit of his advice and assistance, and he was a staunch worker for the Morwell Sacred Heart Church. He is survived by his widow, Jane. Mary, to whom he was married in 1914 at Morwell: Thomas (Rosedale), Agatha (Mrs. Haines, Eltham), Mary (Mrs. O'Bryan, Morwell) and Roger (Morwell). A son, Mar tin, predeceased him. OBITUARY.

M. Bolger.
Another link with the past has snapped in the lamented death of Mr Martin Bolger, at the age of 59, on Wednesday last, from hemorrhage of the brain. Deceased had been ailing for about 12 months, but the end came so suddenly as to cause a great shock to the family and his many friends. He was paying a visit to Mr Grimison, at whose residence the death occurred, without any warning. Mr Bolger was a native of Geelong, and after carrying on business at Moama for many years as representative of Watson and Co., Bendigo, stock and station agents, he migrated to the Balranald district some six years ago, first residing at Emu Park, and afterwards moving to Condoulpe, from which place the funeral started on Friday. Deceased was very-popular with all classes, and deep sympathy, will be felt for his widow and, family of five sons and four daughters, whose loss is a heavy one. He also leaves a sister (Mrs Sprewan, of Echuca) and two nieces, Mesdames McBean and McVean, late of Moulamein, and another relative is Mr P. Byrne, first cousin. Mr Bolger took an active interest in all local matters, and was a member of the P. and A. Society committee. He was, without doubt, "a good sort", and his absence will be keenly felt for many years.

PERSONAL
It is with deep regret we have to chronicle the sudden death of Mr Thomas Bolger, senr, of Jumbuk, a very old colonist and a pioneer of Gippsland, the sad event taking place on Monday morning last. Deceased, who had reached the ripe old age of 84 years, was always hale and hearty, and looked years younger than he really was. He landed in Australia in the forties, and was present at the Eureka riot. He could relate much of great interest regarding the "early days" and scenes witnessed on the gold fields. He was among the first to select land in Jumbuk, and the manner in which he succeeded in converting a wild jungle into a fine, profitable and productive property, speaks much for the pluck, energy and perseverance of the "boys of the old brigade" He hardly knew what a day's illness was, and on the morning of his death ate a hearty break fast. He was chatted to a neighbour outside the house, and was in the act of lighting his pipe, when he suddenly fell back, and expired within two hours. Medical aid was at once sought, but he had passed away whilst the doctor was on his way out. Deceased leaves a widow and large grown-up family to mourn his lose. His remains were interred in the Hazelwood cemetery on Wednesday last, the Rev. E. J. Colman officiating at the grave

MORWELL, Tuesday.- A farmer named Thomas Bolger, a resident of Jumbuk, was bitten by a tiger snake on the forefinger of the right hand. He scarified the bite, and allowed a calf to suck the wound for some time. He rode a distance of 15 miles to Morwell for medical treatment, but on arrival here Dr. Smith pronounced him to be out of danger.

Soon there will not be a Eureka Stockade left in Australia. The veterans are dying off rapidly. Thomas Bolger and Charley Sublet, two of Peter Lao's men, have died recently. These were genuine, but many of the men who now claim to be Eureka veterans were very careful to be outside Lao's Stockade on that fatal Sunday.
